In our production meeting for this month’s Podcast Pat Walker mentioned an anecdote in an old “Walk & Talk” column about how every game director should spend 30 minutes in their mascot’s costume to get an appreciation for what it takes to be a mascot performer. I made a note of it in my notes plug that column during our mascot segment.
During our (heated) Yin/Yang debate about the new DBacks Luchador Mascot Pat neglectedto actually say anything at all about this….however that didn’t stop me from blurting out the plug to Pat’s old column, despite the fact it made not sense at all.
Thankfully I can edit the podcast and remove my random plugs for Pat’s old column.
However my podcast slip-up editing can’t erase the fact that I highly recommend reading Pat’s column titled “Faces Behind the Fur”from mid-2009. In the column he does a great job outlining some key points on building a mascot program and evaluating your current program.
So if you are in need of a mascot program review, Pat’s column is a good one to start with.
